• Wellness Care

  Preventative care is the foundation of good health. It includes a thorough veterinary exam at least annually. Some pets with chronic conditions may require more frequent exams as determined by their special needs. Wellness care also includes laboratory tests to screen for internal and external parasites, internal organ function, preventative medications for fleas, ticks, heartworms and intestinal worms, and vaccinations against diseases for which your pet may be at risk. Other things that will be discussed at your appointment include how to keep your pet at a healthy weight, nutritional recommendations and address any behavioral concerns you may have regarding your pet. • Vaccinations

  Vaccinations are important to keep your pet protected from illnesses for which they are at risk. We follow AAHA and AAFP guidelines to determine which vaccines each individual pet needs to stay healthy based on their lifestyle, risk assessment and life stage. For older dogs that have concerns over continued vaccination for Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo, we offer in house vaccine titer testing to assess the need for boosters.

  Whether your pet is having problems with tummy upset, coughing or any of a number of symptoms or problems, our clinic is here to help determine what is wrong and how we can make your pet well again. We utilize a combination of in house and reference lab testing as well as consultations and referrals to area specialists to provide the best in medical care.

• Routine Screening Tests

  Yearly screening tests that are recommended to keep your pet healthy include: heartworm, lyme and other tick borne diseases, and fecal testing to look for intestinal parasites. In addition to these tests, other tests that are recommended for all adult pets include blood cell counts, blood chemistries and routine urinalysis testing. These tests are often coordinated with your pet’s annual exam and can help both establish normal values for your pet as well as catch changes that could indicate early signs of disease. Many diseases such as kidney problems are often successfully managed if we can institute treatment at an early stage.

  We strive to provide the best surgical and dental care for our patients. Any surgical procedure starts with a thorough exam and consultation with our doctors and staff regarding your pet’s care. We utilize routine blood testing as well as our exam findings to screen your pet for any pre-existing anesthetic risks that may prevent a safe anesthetic event and recovery.  Owners are informed about what to expect before, during the day of and after surgery. We provide detailed written instructions on how to care for you pet after their procedure and will discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding their care. Routine surgeries performed at our practice include spays, neuters, mass removals, dental cleanings with or without extractions, bladder stone removal, and other less common surgeries.

  Recent research shows that obesity in pets is directly related to a shorter life span. Often owners have trouble sorting through advertisements and label claims to find a healthy food for their pet. Food manufacturers routinely encourage owners to feed on the higher side of the recommended daily allowance. These facts combined with exaggerated body images from dog and cat shows, tv and print ads lead to owners to overfeed their pets.  Many dogs and cats are over their ideal weight thus leaving them at risk for arthritis, diabetes, cardiac disease and other serious illnesses. Our practice is dedicated to helping you keep your pet at a healthy weight and offers both nutritional and conditioning plans to help your pet achieve their goal weight.

  We share our lives with our pets and they become a vital part of our family. When it is time to say goodbye, our practice is there to help you determine when they are ready to depart or aid in comfort measures if it is not quite time for them to leave us.
